What a smile makeover includes

A smile makeover is not one procedure but a combination chosen case by case: porcelain veneers, crowns, whitening, gum contouring or small orthodontic corrections. The goal is a result in harmony with your face, never the flat, uniform "veneer look".

With Digital Smile Design, Dr. Aguilar photographs and maps your face and smile, then designs the new proportions digitally. You review that design, sometimes as a mock-up in your mouth, before any tooth is prepared.

Craftsmanship, in-house

Veneers and crowns are only as good as the laboratory that makes them. The clinic runs its own, so shade, translucency and fit are refined with the doctor and technician side by side, often the same day.

The veneers are porcelain. A tooth that needs a full crown gets zirconia or lithium disilicate: zirconia for strength further back, lithium disilicate where translucency at the front matters more. All three are metal-free.

That control matters twice as much when you have flown in: adjustments that would mean weeks of mailing between U.S. offices happen while you are still here.

A real case

Crowded and worn, redesigned into an even smile

An actual patient of Dr. Aguilar, before treatment and after the final restorations. The frames are cropped to match and the clinic logo overlay was removed. No tooth has been whitened, straightened or repaired. The jaw sits differently in the first shot, which is why the lower teeth show. Results vary by patient.

Is this treatment right for you?

Candidacy depends on clinical evaluation. X-rays or a CBCT scan may be needed before a final plan.

Often a good fit

  • Chipped, worn, stained or uneven front teeth
  • Gaps or minor misalignment you want corrected
  • Old crowns or veneers that no longer match
  • A wish for a natural upgrade, not an artificial "perfect" look

Needs closer evaluation

  • Active gum disease or untreated decay, resolved first
  • Severe misalignment that may need orthodontics before veneers
  • Heavy grinding or clenching, managed with a night guard plan
  • Expectations of one fixed "catalog smile", every design here is individual

What to expect

Every case is planned individually. This is the shape most journeys take; your evaluation confirms the exact timeline.

What it costs

Priced by the tooth, so you can add it up

  • You approve the design first
  • One trip, 7 to 12 days
  • No per-visit surprises
Per veneer
$600

In the U.S. about $1,800 per veneer

Most designs, 8 to 10 teeth
$4,800 to $6,000

In the U.S. $14,400 to $18,000 for the same design

U.S. figures: Medical tourism price survey, 2026

What the price covers

  • The Digital Smile Design preview, approved before a tooth is touched
  • Preparation and placement of every veneer in the design
  • Veneers crafted in porcelain by the laboratory in the same building
  • Fitting and adjustment visits until the bite and the shade are right
  • Airport pickup and transport to the clinic
  • A bilingual coordinator, from first email to final fitting

What it does not cover

  • Lodging. One shorter visit leaves room for the trip you actually want, and we help you arrange it

The estimate you approve before you fly is the price you pay, and you approve the design itself before a single tooth is prepared.

Common questions

How long does a smile makeover in Costa Rica take?

Many makeovers complete in one trip of 7 to 12 days, depending on how many teeth are treated. Complex cases combining implants may need a second visit, confirmed at evaluation.

Will veneers look fake?

Not when they are designed around your facial proportions and crafted individually. The digital preview exists precisely so you approve a natural design before treatment starts. Results vary by patient and case.

How many veneers will I need?

It depends on how many teeth show when you smile and what you want to correct: some patients treat 6 to 8 upper teeth, others 10 or more across both arches. Your evaluation defines the exact number.

Are the veneers porcelain or zirconia?

Porcelain. It is thinner and more translucent than zirconia, so it reflects light closer to the way natural enamel does and less of your own tooth has to be reduced to make room for it. Zirconia and lithium disilicate are used here for crowns, where the tooth needs full coverage and strength counts for more than translucency.

How long do veneers last?

Well-maintained porcelain veneers commonly last 10 to 15 years or more, though longevity varies with bite forces, grinding habits and oral hygiene.
